Concrete Cubic Yard and Slab Conversion Reference
Unit conversions for preliminary concrete slab volume. Concrete is commonly ordered by cubic yard, while plans may specify slab thickness in inches.
| Quantity | Calculation | Units |
|---|---|---|
| One cubic yard | 27 cubic feet | ft³ per yd³ |
| Slab cubic feet | Length × width × thickness in feet | ft³ |
| Slab cubic yards | Length × width × (inches ÷ 12) ÷ 27 | yd³ |
| Waste allowance | Base yd³ × (1 + allowance) | yd³ |
Before using these quantities in a bid
- Do not combine slab volume with thickened edges, footings or piers without measuring them separately.
- Account for minimum loads, placement method, design mix and field conditions.
- Order quantity is not structural design.
