Turn PDF floor plans into wall and ceiling quantities, paint and primer gallons, labor, trim, and doors — with editable products, coats, and an editable breakdown.
Walls, ceilings, trim, and doors — converted into real paint and primer gallons for the whole job.
ROOM TAKEOFF
Vega extracts rooms and doors from floor plans, calculates wall and ceiling painting area, converts it into paint and primer gallons, and builds editable material and labor estimates.
Upload the floor plans
Start with the floor plans for every level. Vega extracts rooms — their perimeter, floor area, and ceiling type — and counts the interior doors off the plan.
Read the ceiling
Vega reads ceiling type and pitch across all pages, so a vaulted great room carries its true sloped area instead of being treated as a flat ceiling.
Calculate wall + ceiling SF
Wall SF comes from room perimeter and wall height (both faces of partitions, one interior face of exterior walls). Ceiling SF is pitch-adjusted for vaulted rooms.
Convert to gallons
Paintable SF becomes real gallon quantities — finish paint gallons from area, coats, and coverage; primer gallons from area and coverage. Whole gallons, not fractional buckets.
Build the estimate
Vega prices paint, primer, accessories, painting labor, trim labor, and door labor — with a multi-tone surcharge — and carries the reviewed quantities into a client proposal.
Rooms and doors are AI-detected from floor plans. Painting quantities are calculated from that geometry — the estimator reviews and edits everything in the breakdown.
Interior wall paint area comes from the room itself — perimeter multiplied by wall height. This counts both faces of interior partitions and one interior face of exterior walls, which is the interior surface a roller actually reaches.
Wall area is gross — Vega does not deduct door or window openings from the wall total. Every quantity is editable in the breakdown.
Vega adjusts ceiling surface area for supported vaulted and cathedral ceilings instead of treating every ceiling as flat. A vaulted great room carries its true sloped area — the difference between a flat ceiling and the rafter plane above it.
Flat ceiling
ceiling SF = floor SF
A flat ceiling has the same surface as the floor beneath it. Simple, accurate, and the default for most rooms.
Vaulted / cathedral ceiling
ceiling SF = floor SF × pitch multiplier
A sloped ceiling is the hypotenuse over the footprint — more surface than the floor. An 8/12 vault over 400 SF is 481 SF of ceiling.
Ceiling SF contributes to the material quantity (gallons). Painting labor is billed over one area basis — floor SF or wall SF — not a separate ceiling-labor line.
Vega does not just price paint by the square foot. It converts paintable surface area into real gallon quantities — finish paint and primer — calculated from area, coat count, and coverage.
THE GALLON FORMULAS
Paintable SF is wall SF + ceiling SF. More coats means more gallons. Coverage is editable. Gallons are whole numbers — you buy paint by the can, not by the fraction.
Paint coverage
350 SF / galEditable per estimate
Primer coverage

Default coats

Primer

Gallons are calculated for the whole job, not separately per wall, ceiling, room, or surface. Paint and primer are bought by the can.
Adjust finish coats from one to five and watch the gallon count change. Primer is separate — one coat, default on. Painting labor is billed over one area basis, not multiplied per coat.

Catalog list prices, not live feeds. All products share 350 SF/gal coverage. Vega does not provide live, real-time, local, or ZIP-code pricing.
The Rooms tab shows wall SF, ceiling SF, and trim LF per room, and lets you edit painting and trim labor quantity and rate per room. Only labor is room-attributable — paint and primer are bought by the gallon for the whole job.
Per-room (labor)
Whole-job (material)
Paint and primer are bought by the gallon for the whole job (Math.ceil on the aggregate), so per-room material would invent fractional buckets. The tab says so rather than showing a number that quietly excludes most of the trade.
Trim painting labor uses room perimeter as an editable allowance for baseboard and casing. Door painting labor is a flat per-door price on the detected door count. Both are editable.
Trim — perimeter proxy
Trim LF = room perimeter. Priced per LF × union multiplier. An editable allowance for baseboard and casing painting — not a finish-carpentry takeoff.
Doors — flat per-door
Door count detected off the floor plan. Flat per-door painting price (front and back implied, no union multiplier). The count is editable.
Shared room geometry is visible on the canvas. Paint-specific decisions — product, coats, primer, labor basis, rates, and the multi-tone surcharge — are edited in the breakdown.
See rooms on the plan
Room polygons, perimeter, floor area, and ceiling type are visible on the canvas — the geometry behind every painting quantity.
Choose the paint product
Eight catalog products from Behr, Sherwin-Williams, and Benjamin Moore. Selecting a product swaps in its catalog price.
Set coats and coverage
Finish coats 1–5, paint coverage, and primer coverage are all editable — and coats drive the gallon count.
Toggle primer on or off
Primer defaults on as one coat. Choose general or stain-blocking. Turn it off for a repaint that does not need it.
Pick the labor basis
Bill painting labor over floor SF (default) or wall SF. The two carry different rates on purpose — a room wall area is much larger than its floor area.
Edit every rate and quantity
Override wall SF, trim LF, door count, every labor rate, the union multiplier, and the multi-tone surcharge. Add custom items. Reset to defaults anytime.

Interior Paint owns primer and architectural interior finish paint. Exterior painting is Exteriors. Epoxy, intumescent, and industrial coatings are Specialty Coatings.
PAINTING CONTRACTORS
Focus on the surfaces, products, and coats — and carry them into a painting bid without rebuilding the takeoff from scratch.
GENERAL CONTRACTORS & BUILDERS
Estimate painting alongside drywall, flooring, and framing — one building, one project, one proposal.
Residential is the strongest project fit. Commercial interior painting is supported; industrial and specialty coatings belong to Specialty Coatings.
Painting estimating software helps contractors turn construction plans into painting quantities — wall and ceiling area, trim length, door counts — and then into paint and primer gallons, labor, and a reviewable estimate. Vega is built around that workflow for painting contractors, general contractors, and estimators.
Yes. Vega extracts rooms and doors from floor plan PDFs, reads ceiling type and pitch across the set, and builds an editable painting estimate. This is an AI-assisted, estimator-controlled workflow — not a one-click automatic takeoff. You review the geometry and the painting decisions before pricing.
Vega calculates wall area from room geometry — room perimeter multiplied by wall height. This counts both faces of interior partitions and one interior face of exterior walls, which is the interior surface that gets painted. The wall height and perimeter are editable in the breakdown. Vega uses gross wall area; it does not deduct door and window openings from the wall total.
Yes. Vega converts paintable surface area into whole-gallon quantities. Paint gallons = CEILING((paintable SF × finish coats) ÷ paint coverage), with coverage defaulting to 350 SF per gallon. Changing the coat count or the coverage changes the gallon count. Gallons are calculated for the whole job, not separately per wall, ceiling, room, or surface.
Yes. Primer gallons = CEILING(paintable SF ÷ primer coverage), with coverage defaulting to 300 SF per gallon. Primer defaults on as one coat over the paintable area. You can choose general primer or stain-blocking primer, or turn primer off for a repaint that does not need it.
Yes. Finish coats are adjustable from one to five, with two as the default. Changing the coat count changes the material quantity — more coats means more paint gallons. Coat count does not multiply painting labor; labor is billed over a single area basis (floor SF or wall SF), not per coat.
Yes. Vega detects vaulted and cathedral ceilings and adjusts the ceiling surface area with a pitch multiplier — a sloped ceiling has more surface than the flat floor beneath it. Flat ceilings use the room floor area. Vega does not estimate tray ceilings, coffers, soffits, or bulkheads; those are treated as flat.
Yes. Painting labor is one line over a chosen basis — floor SF (default) or wall SF — multiplied by a union or non-union multiplier. Trim labor is per LF (from room perimeter) and door labor is a flat per-door price. A multi-tone surcharge can be added to the whole trade total. Every labor rate, the basis, and the multiplier are editable.
Yes. The Rooms tab shows wall SF, ceiling SF, and trim LF per room, and lets you edit painting and trim labor quantity and rate per room. Only labor is room-attributable — paint and primer are bought by the gallon for the whole job, so per-room material would invent fractional buckets. The tab says so rather than showing a number that quietly excludes most of the trade.
Yes. Interior doors are counted off the floor plan via door detection, and each carries a flat per-door painting price (front and back implied). The door count is editable. Vega does not estimate door jambs, casing, or specific door types separately — one flat price per door.
Vega uses room perimeter as a trim proxy — an editable allowance for baseboard and casing painting labor, priced per LF and multiplied by the union factor. It is not a finish-carpentry takeoff and it does not receive trim quantities from a millwork trade. Trim paint material is included in the job-wide gallon calculation, not a separate trim-gallon line.
No. Vega uses gross wall area calculated from room perimeter and wall height. It does not subtract door or window openings from the wall total. A room with a large window wall is billed the same paint quantity as a solid wall of the same dimensions. You can manually adjust the wall SF in the breakdown if you want to account for openings.
No. Vega uses catalog list prices for eight paint products from Behr, Sherwin-Williams, and Benjamin Moore, and two primer products. These are stored catalog selections, not live feeds. Every price is editable in the breakdown, and you can use your own rates. Vega does not provide live, real-time, local, or ZIP-code pricing.
No. Exterior painting — siding paint, stucco, EIFS, exterior trim, fascia, soffit, and exterior doors — belongs to the Exteriors trade. Interior Paint estimates interior walls, ceilings, trim, and doors only. The two trades do not overlap.
No. The Interior Paint estimator prices walls, ceilings, trim, and doors. It does not contain a cabinet-painting quantity, cabinet count, or cabinet labor line. Cabinet painting is not part of the current Interior Paint scope.
